I think of »Alles ist da« (Everything Is There) as compressed time — as layers of information inscribed in stone. The foundation of this series is photographs of rock formations I’ve collected on my travels over the past years. What the camera captures becomes a starting point in the studio: with graphite sketches, I dissolve this compression again — reducing, abstracting, searching for what is essential. In a second step, the paintings emerge: it’s a process of filtering out — I make visible what is already inherent in nature, translating it into my own visual language.
